What to Wear to a Private School Parent Interview
The thought of a private school interview can be overwhelming and parents often find this aspect to be very stressful. While the admissions process can be daunting, it is the face to face interview that most parents fear the most. This is one of the most important components of the application process and it is very important to stay calm and to wear the appropriate attire because this will show you are serious and will ensure the interview process is smooth and pleasant for everyone involved.
If you are a parent and have a private school interview coming up, here are a few things to consider:
Research the school before your interview
It is very important to understand what the school offers, what their values are and what sets them apart from the rest. During your interview, you will be asked questions like why you want your child to attend their school and answering in detail will prove that you have done your research. You should be able to explain why the school’s values align with your family and gaining knowledge about the school beforehand will allow you to express yourself more clearly. Generic answers will not be appreciated as much as thoughtful ones, so keep that in mind.
Dress appropriately
Showing up in nice attire is extremely important because it is a sign of respect and shows that you care. Ripped jeans, revealing attire or dirty clothes should never be worn and putting some thought into your interview outfit is a must. While you don’t have to show up in a tuxedo or ball gown, you should wear something that is appropriate so that your appearance compliments the school and their reputation. Private schools have a dress code and dressing nicely will be greatly appreciated.
Don’t be afraid of small talk
It is okay to engage the interviewer in small talk because creating a dialogue is a great way of eliminating stress and creating a friendly environment. Don’t feel like you have to be too serious because that can make the process uncomfortable.
Answer questions in detail
One of the many advantages of a tutor is their ability to accommodate your child’s schedule, so make sure they can offer you the days and times you’re after and determine if their rates fit into your budget. Older and experienced tutors will charge more while younger tutors who are slightly less experienced will charge less and may be able to connect better with your child. Consider which option is best for your child’s needs specifically and base your decision on that aspect.
Involve Your Child In The Selection Process
Simple yes or no answers should be avoided because it doesn’t leave room for conversation and you will be unable to engage the interviewer. Use examples that help illustrate your point and don’t be afraid of telling stories that tie into your answers. At the end of the interview, you will have a chance to ask questions as well, so make sure they are thought-provoking because the interviewer will make note of the content and tone of your inquiries when evaluating the interview session. Simple questions will show that you are not serious and will make it obvious that you have not done any research.
