CanSTEM Education Middle School Program Overview
CanSTEM Education Private School is excited to introduce our Middle School Program in 2023 as part of our growth. This program provides students in grades 7 and 8 with high-quality online education tailored to their needs.
What Is Middle School?
Middle school typically includes grades 6 to 9, varying by province. In Ontario, grades 7 and 8 are part of middle school. Some regions combine grades 7 and 8 in separate middle schools, while others keep students in elementary school until grade 8 before moving to high school.
Curriculum Overview for Grades 7 and 8
Geography
Grade 7 explores topographic maps, human-environment interactions, and Earth’s physical features. Grade 8 builds on these concepts with advanced map skills, settlement patterns, and environmental impacts.
History
Grade 7 focuses on Canada’s social, political, and economic changes between 1713 and 1850. Topics include Indigenous peoples, European settlers, and historical developments. Grade 8 examines the years 1850 to 1914, covering events like Confederation, the Gold Rush, and the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Language
Grade 7 develops communication skills through non-fiction, poetry, and media studies, including J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Grade 8 builds on these skills with a deeper focus on literary analysis, particularly in the fantasy genre.
Mathematics
Grade 7 covers algebra, data management, and financial literacy, promoting a positive math mindset. Grade 8 expands on geometry, fractions, integers, and the Pythagorean Theorem.
Science
Grade 7 introduces basic chemistry, ecosystems, and biological systems. Grade 8 explores biology, chemistry, and physics, focusing on cells, organ systems, and fluid dynamics.
CanSTEM also offers courses in art, health, and physical education to complement core subjects.
