This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles that will prepare them for postsecondary studies in business. Students will learn about financial statements for various forms of business ownership and how those statements are interpreted in making business decisions. This course expands students’ knowledge of sources of financing, further develops accounting methods for assets, and introduces accounting for partnerships and corporations.

BAT4M Financial Accounting Principles develops practical skills for financial statements and business reporting. In addition, students learn how accountants record and organize transactions.
Next, students compare inventory methods and practise adjusting and reversing entries. Finally, students explore business financing and use annual reports to support decisions.
Please be aware that, as per Ministry guidelines, CanSTEM Education has a mandatory minimum requirement of 2 weeks enrolment for students to be eligible for a midterm report card and 4 weeks enrolment to be eligible for a final report card. This 110-hour requirement ensures that students receive a standardized amount of learning time for each credit they earn. The 110 hours typically include planned learning activities, excluding homework, designed to achieve the course’s curriculum expectations, according to the Ontario Ministry of Education.
BAT4M is a Grade 12 Financial Accounting Principles course at a University/College preparation level.
4M refers to the Grade level of the courses and the pathway. 4 means it is a grade 12 course and M means it is a university or college preparation course.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Financial Accounting, Grade 11
