AP Calculus BC at CanSTEM Education Private School helps students build strong calculus and problem-solving skills for university-level study. First, students explore limits, derivatives, integrals, and differential equations. Next, they study sequences and series and connect these ideas to graphs and equations. In addition, students apply calculus to real-world problems. They also practice choosing the right methods and clearly explaining their work. As a result, students build confidence and prepare for further study in math, science, engineering, and related fields.
| Unit | Title | Expectations Summary | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Limits and Continuity | First, students study limits, continuity, gaps, and asymptotes. They explore these ideas using numbers, graphs, equations, and explanations. | Limits |
| 2 | Differentiation: Definition and Fundamental Properties | Next, students study derivatives as rates of change and tangent slopes. In addition, they estimate values and apply basic derivative rules. | Derivative Foundations |
| 3 | Differentiation: Composite, Implicit, and Inverse Functions | Then, students apply the chain rule and implicit differentiation. They also study inverse functions, trigonometric derivatives, and higher-order derivatives. | Advanced Differentiation |
| 4 | Contextual Applications of Differentiation | Next, students solve problems involving motion, related rates, local linearity, and L'Hospital's Rule. Moreover, they explain derivative values using units and context. | Applied Rates |
| 5 | Analytical Applications of Differentiation | Students use derivatives to study function behavior, extrema, concavity, graphs, and optimization. In addition, they apply the Mean Value Theorem. | Function Analysis |

|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | Integration and Accumulation of Change | First, students study definite integrals, accumulation, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Then, they work with substitution, integration by parts, partial fractions, and improper integrals. | Integration |
| 7 | Differential Equations | Next, students study slope fields and solve separable differential equations. In addition, they use Euler's Method and model exponential and logistic growth. | Differential Equations |
| 8 | Applications of Integration | Students apply integrals to motion, area, volume, and average value. For example, they also solve problems involving cross sections and arc length. | Integral Applications |
| 9 | Parametric Equations, Polar Coordinates, and Vector-Valued Functions | Then, students extend calculus to parametric, polar, and vector-valued functions. They also study derivatives, motion, area, distance, and arc length. | BC Parametric and Polar |
| 10 | Infinite Sequences and Series | Finally, students study convergence, series tests, and power series. In addition, they explore Taylor and Maclaurin polynomials, error bounds, and function approximation. | Series |
| Final | AP Review and BC Modeling Portfolio | To conclude, students complete an AP-style review and a final calculus modeling project. As a result, they strengthen problem-solving, technology use, mathematical modeling, and written explanation skills. | AP Preparation |
